Please read my conference paper published (May 2015) on the Australian Fairy Tale Society (AFTS) website. The AFTS is a not for profit group which explores and promotes fairy tales, especially ones which have significance for Australia.
My paper compares the narrative structures of certain European fairy tales and discusses the process of healing of the central character. The notion of healing is important to understand in the context of learning more about the stories of asylum seekers and refugees. They, like fairy tale characters, are in the process of becoming a person again, transforming themselves to live in new societies all around the world. I have made observations of these stories and how they might be used to interpret Refugee Wolf. And I consider whether Refugee Wolf can help foster society’s understanding of, and help heal, the asylum seeker debate.
